Whether we depend upon the Salish Sea for our living or quality of life, we all benefit from a healthy marine ecosystem. Yet in the blink of an eye, profound and disturbing changes have threatened its health. Between 2008 and 2011, the number of marine wildlife species listed as threatened or endangered in the Salish Sea nearly doubled. Increasingly, the sea is challenged by an ever-growing list of threats from ocean acidification to unchecked wastewater runoff to increased marine shipping traffic.

Over the last 15 years, the SeaDoc Society’s groundbreaking marine research has helped uncover multiple environmental factors that threaten to unravel the web of life in the Salish Sea and surrounding watersheds.

We’ve been instrumental in the recovery and protection of some of our region’s most iconic species such as the tufted puffin, rockfish and abalone. We are proud of what we have accomplished in a short time, but there is much more to be done.

The question we need to ask ourselves is this: How can we ensure that the Salish Sea remains vibrant and viable in 100 years? With so much still at stake, now is the time to increase SeaDoc’s impact.

The goal of the Salish Sea Forever Campaign is to raise $1.5 million to increase the SeaDoc Society’s capacity to make a difference.

Over the next five years, SeaDoc will double its research efforts by conducting and funding new groundbreaking research into the risks that threaten marine life. SeaDoc will actively work to bring people together across borders to develop new and innovative region-wide solutions to the critical issues affecting the ecosystem.

We will strengthen SeaDoc’s ability to affect change by upgrading our administrative infrastructure and increasing our fundraising capacity. But we can’t do this vital work alone.

We are excited to announce that we are nearly halfway to our fundraising goal, but we need your support to make our vision a reality.

A gift to the Salish Sea Forever Campaign will bring the transformative power of scientific research to the most challenging issues facing the Salish Sea and its inhabitants today.

We hope you will join us!
