Aisha Rashid
Aisha Rashid is an early-career Marine Biologist and Oceanographer, graduating from the University of Washington. in June of 2024. She has spent the past 3 field seasons working on the Whale Scat Project under Dr. Giles, and started as a volunteer with the program almost 5 years ago. While not on San Juan Island scooping whale poop, she loves to be outdoors whether on horse-back, hiking, or underwater! This past spring, she worked as an Intern for the Alaska Whale Foundation, helping survey Gray whales with drones, photo ID, and transects. As a passionate marine mammalogist, she hopes to pursue graduate studies to study the non-migratory Humpback whales in the Arabian Sea.
Additionally, Aisha serves as the Science Director for The EARTHGANG Foundation and works in science communication at the Center for Whale Research, the San Juan Island Naturalist Program, and volunteers with the Sk'aliCh'elh-tenaut Legacy Group. She is dedicated to translating science into action in creative ways, motivated to use blue solutions to address climate change.
