Salish Sea Education

The SeaDoc Society is dedicated to ensuring the health of marine wildlife and their ecosystems in the Salish Sea through science and education. We believe that in order to protect an ecosystem, one must first know and connect with it.

To that end, SeaDoc has made education a priority for more than 25 years, including two books about the Salish Sea, a popular wildlife adventure show, and a Salish Sea curriculum that has been deployed widely at schools throughout the region.

salish sea Curriculum

Developed with input from marine scientists, tribal members, and educators, this hands-on curriculum encourages fifth graders to explore local ecosystems. Now led by our partners at the Pacific Education Institute, it includes units on killer whales, water quality, and salmon health, aiming to inspire curiosity and environmental stewardship.

Salish Sea Wild

A wildlife documentary series hosted by SeaDoc's Science Director, Joe Gaydos, each episode explores a different species or topic, from sea lions and killer whales to bald eagles and abalone—aiming to educate viewers about the diverse wildlife of the Pacific Northwest and the importance of ecosystem-level conservation.

Salish Sea kids Book

Books like Explore the Salish Sea: A Nature Guide for Kids introduce young readers to the region’s rich marine life. In simple terms and through gorgeous photos, the book unlocks the magic of the Salish Sea. We have provided copies to thousands of children, teachers and other education programs throughout the state—including Title 1 schools.
